Meet the Artist
Crystal M. is the artist behind Crispectiveart, a creative practice rooted in the belief that art has the power to shift perspective. Inspired by her own name, Crispectiveart is an exploration of seeing the world and ourselves through new lenses.
Her artistic journey spans more than two decades, moving fluidly across photography, digital illustration, and oil painting. What began as a creative outlet has evolved into a lifelong practice of self discovery, with each medium serving as a way to explore memory, emotion, identity, and healing.
Born in Queens, New York, and raised between Maryland and Ghana, Crystal draws inspiration from nostalgia, community, sisterhood, and everyday moments. Her work reflects both lived experiences and imagined worlds, weaving memory with possibility to create narratives that are deeply personal yet widely relatable.
Working within the language of Afro Surrealism, Crystal creates emotionally rich paintings that blur the boundaries between reality and imagination. Through vibrant color, symbolism, and storytelling, she creates dreamlike worlds that invite viewers to reconnect with themselves and imagine new possibilities for their lives.
At the center of her practice, in its rawest form, is a simple desire: to live serendipitously and to inspire others to do the same. Each painting is an offering to her younger self and an invitation for others to embrace their own journey toward self acceptance, resilience, and transformation.
Through Crispectiveart, she hopes to create visual sanctuaries that encourage reflection, nurture the spirit, and remind us that healing often begins with a simple shift in perspective.
