Meet the Artist
Crystal is a multidisciplinary artist born in Queens, New York, whose childhood unfolded between Maryland and Ghana. Moving across continents at an early age shaped her expansive worldview and instilled a deep sensitivity to culture, place, and human connection.
Her innate curiosity and love for adventure were nurtured by her father, who gifted her a camera and encouraged her to solo travel at just twelve years old. Through that early act of trust, Crystal developed both independence and a lasting belief that the world is hers to explore. Photography became her first language of expression—one that taught her how to observe, wander, and document moments of beauty, contradiction, and quiet truth.
Crystal’s work explores themes of leisure as resistance, audacity, identity, intimacy, and cultural memory. She is drawn to the tension between softness and strength, rest and ambition, tradition and modernity. Her art often invites viewers to slow down, question inherited narratives, and reclaim joy, safety, and self-trust in a world that rarely makes space for them. Whimsy and introspection coexist in her compositions, reflecting a belief that playfulness can be profound and that rest can be radical.
Influenced by her diasporic upbringing, Crystal’s practice bridges African and Western sensibilities, blending symbolism, storytelling, and lived experience. Her work serves as both a sanctuary and a mirror, encouraging viewers to reflect, feel, and imagine more expansive ways of being.
Through her art, Crystal creates visual spaces where contemplation is honored, curiosity is protected, and life is approached with intention, courage, and grace.
